Three Effective Promotion Strategies on Ozon

Why identical products rank differently

Two listings can look the same, cost the same and use the same design, yet sit pages apart in search. That is not random. Sellers whose products rank higher understand how the marketplace algorithms work and use the right tools. On Ozon you can promote a product in several ways, and the right mix depends on your experience, budget and goals.

Strategy 1. Free promotion

Shoppers rarely scroll through dozens of pages. They pick something from the first results, so the goal is to rank as high as possible. Ozon has an internal optimization system that rewards well-built listings. What does it need?

  • A fully completed product card. Write a unique, detailed title that does not duplicate competitors. Avoid abbreviations in both the title and the description.
  • Targeted keywords. The more accurately you use search terms, the more likely the algorithms are to push the card up. Fill in every field: completeness of the description directly affects promotion.
  • Strong infographics and a video cover. If every image looks the same, shoppers click the one that stands out. Do not copy competitors' photos; be unique.
  • Mine your reviews. See what buyers praise and what they say was missing, then put those points into the infographics. A video cover lets you show the product in detail, explain key features and demonstrate how it is used.
  • Rich content. Think of it as a mini-site for the product, with photos, video and a detailed description. Shoppers read colorful rich content far more readily than plain text.
  • Reviews. They often decide the purchase. Work to keep them positive and reply to every review, including negative ones. Do not use templates: write an individual response to each buyer. That way you address doubts, handle objections and build loyalty.

Sales volume and delivery speed also matter. Get all of this right and the Ozon algorithms will start promoting your card for you.

Strategy 2. Paid promotion

Ads and templates. Advertising lifts a product card above others in its category, and the seller sets the budget. The larger the budget relative to competitors, the higher the card rises.

Templates are an automated form of advertising. Based on the seller's budget, the algorithms assemble the search terms themselves and decide which audiences to target and where to show the product.

Newsletters and push notifications. In a mass Ozon mailing, messages go to all shoppers on the marketplace, and competitors' products appear alongside yours. With an individual email campaign you set the number of recipients and the number of products, and you are charged based on those figures.

Promotions. Join marketplace campaigns regularly. They are a reliable way to move up in search and get into special sections where, during a sale, large numbers of shoppers look for cheaper products.

Strategy 3. External traffic

You can also drive traffic to an Ozon listing from outside the marketplace. Ozon lets you create a UTM tag for the link that points to your product card, so you can advertise beyond the marketplace: in messengers and social media, through influencer placements, unboxing videos, paid search and more.

Before spending on paid tools, make sure the product card itself is properly built and catches attention. Then every promotion channel will deliver results.
