Why a brand matters
Sellers who win are not the ones who bring another no-name product from a factory. They are the ones who give that product a voice, a story and a reason to be chosen. This is not about a nice logo or packaging, although both matter. It is about making the buyer fall in love with your brand and search for it by name instead of just searching for where to buy a thermos.
Even Coca-Cola started as a recipe from an unknown pharmacist. A brand grows brick by brick, and here are the three steps that matter most.
Step 1: the product is the foundation of the brand
Start by thinking of the product as the base of the brand. If you are still choosing what to sell, do not pick a product just because it is trending. Pick a product you can build a unique selling proposition, an emotion and a story around.
Take disposable razors. On their own they are boring. But razors that help teenagers take their first step into adult life already carry a story.
If the product is the foundation, the brand is the building. If you are building a long-term business rather than a summer stall for a quick profit, do not skimp on the foundation.
Step 2: the product card is your brand manager
Your product card works like a brand manager. It has to appear in search results, it needs photo and video content that makes people want to buy, and it needs a description that conveys the meaning of your product and brand so the buyer believes you.
Video: three ideas for shooting
Video is the most underused weapon on the marketplace. You can upload up to five videos to a card, and this is where the real magic happens.
- Make the customer the hero, not the product. Show how the product solves a real pain. A 30-second script works well: show the pain, show your product as the solution, and end with the customer's relief that the problem is gone. The viewer should recognize themselves in the story. This works strongly on recognition, loyalty and conversion.
- Sell emotions. People do not buy a product, they buy how they will feel with it. A cool water bottle is not about drinking water, which you can do from any store bottle. It is about feeling stylish, sporty and health-conscious. When you shoot video, sell a specific image, an emotion, your customer's dream.
- Sell through a story. Wrap an ordinary product in an unusual, interesting story: about the founder, the customers or the company mission.
Step 3: promotion inside Ozon
Once the card is ready, it is time to raise traffic, impressions and trust. There are two directions to work in.
The first is promotion inside Ozon. The core tools are pay-per-click and pay-per-order advertising in the ad cabinet. They are not a magic pill, but in the right combination they work very well. The combination that performs best is advertising plus reviews plus promotions plus pay-per-order.
A practical tip: build a simple spreadsheet where you log every combination you test. Test one tool, then another, and record which combination you checked and what result you got. This shows what actually works and what does not. Many sellers ignore analytics, and that is a mistake: reviewing the numbers can double or triple sales simply by revealing the combination that delivers the lowest customer acquisition cost.
External traffic and ambassadors
The second direction is external traffic, and it opens up a lot of opportunities. Since we are talking about a brand, look for traffic that adds value.
One of the strongest channels is ambassadors: bloggers, experts and opinion leaders who talk about you. They create social proof, showing that respected experts care about your brand and trust it. They also build an emotional connection by linking the buyer to someone they respect and trust.
Do not chase million-follower bloggers. Micro-influencers with 5,000, 10,000 or 20,000 followers often deliver a strong niche audience that is far more engaged than a million-follower account.
Another technique is a coupon or promo code. It brings in buyers and gives you a trackable channel: give each blogger their own code and you can see who performed best. A promo code also makes the buyer feel they received a privilege, which is another emotion you communicate through your advertising.
A brand is more than packaging
A brand is about a product that solves a problem, a message that resonates, and the experience the customer keeps after the purchase. You can sell an unnamed product and make money, and that is fine: nine out of ten sellers do exactly that. But if you want repeat sales, word of mouth, fans and growth beyond the marketplace, build a brand for the long term.
Both strategies are valid. But if you want the second one, you have to create a brand. It will be hard at first, and in six months you will be grateful you started.
Summary
Building a brand on Ozon is consistent work on the product, the card and promotion. If you commit to a long-term strategy, in six months you will be glad you began. Choose deliberate brand building, and the results will follow.
