A good product description is not a technical formality. It is a part of the sales funnel that works for you around the clock, for free. Below is a step-by-step process for using AI to produce descriptions quickly and well, so they stand out from competitors and lift conversion and CTR. The same approach works for the short annotation and for the rich content block, and it carries over to Wildberries, Yandex Market and other marketplaces.
Why the description matters
Competition on Ozon is high in almost every category. Buyers do not have the time or the patience to dig in. They open a product card, scan it for 5 to 10 seconds and decide: buy, keep looking, or close it and forget it.
The description is your chance to state the benefit, show what makes you different and handle objections. In practice you have to answer two questions: why should the buyer choose you, and why now.
AI is a tool, not a magic button
ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and similar tools will not write everything for you. Used well, they compress the work: instead of one to three hours per card, or paying copywriters who also spend time, the same task takes about 5 minutes. Instead of grey templates that list facts, you get text that speaks to the buyer in their language. The requests you give the model are the prompts.
Step 1: Prepare the product information
The model does not know your product, its strengths, its audience or its specs. Give it clear inputs:
- What the product is: type and category, what it does.
- Who buys it most often. A description for buyers aged 18 to 20 differs from one for 30 to 40 year olds, and both differ from one for 50 to 60 year olds. State the audience you want to reach and the model will adapt.
- Which pains or needs the product solves: why buy it at all.
- Your competitive advantages. A common problem we see in seller audits: the owner explains in person that they have their own production or special materials, but none of that appears on the product card. Buyers never learn it.
Example request
"I sell a foldable baby high chair for feeding. It takes little space, is easy to clean and suits children from 6 months to 3 to 5 years. The target audience is young mothers who care about safety. Based on this, write a description for my product."
Step 2: Shape the prompt
Once the inputs are in place the model will already produce something. Go further with a working template:
"Write a product description for the Ozon marketplace. The style should be simple, persuasive and buyer-oriented, ideally conversational. Use a structure with paragraphs and lists. Emphasise benefits and solving buyer problems, and show how we differ from competitors. Do not use phrases like 'our product'. Write as if you are explaining to the buyer why they should choose this product."
How you phrase the request strongly affects the result. You can then ask for one more variant, or two more, or ask to make the text shorter, longer, or to stress safety, quality, compactness or what is in the box.
Step 3: Check and refine
Most of the time the output is ready to publish, but check the facts: AI can still invent details that do not match your product. Clean up the style, remove repetitions and bring the language closer to your audience. If the text feels slightly off, sit down and edit it. If you did not include keywords in the prompt, add SEO terms manually at this stage.
Techniques that strengthen a description
- Lead with the benefit, not the spec. Instead of "450 ml stainless steel mug", write that the coffee stays hot until lunch, even in a car in winter.
- Speak through needs and scenarios. The product suits a small kitchen because it is compact; it is safe for a child because of the straps and stable base.
- Compare with alternatives. "Unlike standard models, ours comes apart and wipes clean with a cloth, no brush needed."
- Structure the text. Lists, subheadings and short paragraphs. Nobody reads a wall of text.
What AI gives you
- Speed: a product card in 5 to 10 minutes.
- Quality: text that engages and does not read like copied content.
- Uniqueness: especially in narrow niches with little product information and high competition.
- Conversion: buyers get direct answers to their questions.
Consider the scale: with 20 to 50 SKUs, descriptions written just to tick a box are a large volume of missed opportunities and missed revenue.
Takeaway
A good description is part of well-built marketing. AI lets you upgrade this element without hiring copywriters and without wasting time and money. Treat it as a growth tool, not as one more field in the product card that has to be filled in.
