How SEO Works on Ozon: A Step-by-Step Guide

Why SEO on Ozon matters

Competition on Ozon is growing fast. Registering on the platform and waiting for orders is no longer enough. If you want potential buyers to find your product card, you have to promote it properly. Shoppers rarely scroll through pages of search results - they click one of the first products they see and buy there.

To rank above competitors you need SEO optimization. The advantage of SEO is that you can set it up once and it keeps bringing a steady flow of customers.

Everything starts with optimizing your content: a well-built product card increases views and drives sales. Before you think about promotion, make sure the card a buyer lands on is ready to convert.

Step 1. Build your semantic core

Analyze which search queries your target audience uses to find your product. Look at the keywords competitors rank for and compile a list of keywords you can use.

To build the semantic core, use the platform's internal analytics (for example, search query analytics) as well as third-party SEO tools.

Step 2. Write your product titles

Use this formula: product type + brand + model + key characteristics for the category.

The title should be short but informative, and ideally include your main keyword. You can find it by typing your product into the search bar: the platform shows frequent user queries for that product. Pick the most frequent query that accurately describes your product and work it into the title.

Step 3. Write the product description

Descriptions must be free of errors. Keywords can and should be included, woven naturally into the text. Use the keywords you collected in step 1, and check search suggestions for queries buyers might use to find your product.

A common mistake is listing keywords separated by commas. That kind of description is uninformative, and the platform recognizes it as spam, which sends the product into a kind of shadow ban: your cards start getting very little traffic no matter what you do.

Remember that buyers use different queries and filters, so describe every product characteristic in full.

Step 4. Add visual information to the card

Upload high-quality photos, because a lot depends on them. Create product infographics that put the main benefits and characteristics right on the image. Photos must show the product from all angles and match reality. Watermarks and contact details are not allowed.

It is also worth adding rich content and video that show the product in action.

SEO is ongoing work

For SEO and later optimization, it is not enough to upload your cards and wait. You need to keep taking action:

  • respond to buyers, including every review, even negative ones;
  • take part in promotions and sales;
  • use paid product card promotion and other tools.

If you execute these steps consistently, your profit is very likely to keep growing.
